Cork and rubber have been fun materials to work with, but this weekend I decided to go for a homier approach to stamping. Potatoes are cheap and easy to cut, so they’re a lot of fun to experiment with. Take a peek at my results and I’ll show you where you can learn to get stamping, too.
The materials you need are pretty straightforward:
- Potatoes! ;)
- Knife (I used a Fiskars hobby knife)
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- Cutting board
- Paints & paper
Sometimes when I mention my ‘craft a month’ project, the response isn’t the usual, ‘Wow, that sounds pretty cool. What are you learning now?’
A couple times the response has been confused.
‘Haven’t you found a craft you like yet? What’s the point?’
Or sometimes someone feels insulted. ‘I’ve been working in _____ for years and I’m still learning.’
Mollie Makes has been one of my favourite craft magazines since Issue 02.
So it’s no shock that I was ecstatic when they wanted to mention me as their ‘one to follow’ in Issue 26. Squeals might have been involved. Rest assured I’ll be celebrating properly.
Being able to see Crafting Fingers in print, when it’s such a new little project, is such a cool feeling. It makes this project feel a bit more real. What started as something fun and silly is quickly turning into a creative funnel for my crafting projects. It’s nice to have a place to shout from the rooftops about how much I love handmade.
Which brings me to an important topic that I’ve been thinking about recently.
Why does getting support in handmade pursuits matter so much to us?
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a teensy tiny bit addicted to magazines. But that’s a story for another day. My point is that when a new magazine comes along, it gets me excited.
In March, Crafty Magazine made its debut with Issue 01, and what can I say? I am in love.
First Impressions
My biggest project in 2013 is to learn a new craft every month.
But that’s not my only project of the year.
Another one of my goals this year is to have a proper herb garden. When I made that goal I didn’t know when we were going to be moving into our new house, but luckily we moved mid-March. Just in time for the growing season!
With some unseasonably cold weather things aren’t moving as fast as my impatient green fingers want them to, but gardening is about patience. It’s a slow moment in the day to get messy fingers and nurture the earth. (Even if that earth is in tiny containers because that’s what you have room for. That still counts.)
